In Loving Memory of:
John David Fisher VERNON
— A 17-year-old National Honor Society student and football
captain-to-be at Vernon High School died Thursday night of injuries sustained in a car accident. John Fisher, whose black Audi struck a retaining wall last Sunday night on Vernon Crossing Road, was pronounced dead at 6:20 p.m. Thursday in Morristown Memorial Hospital, Vernon Police Chief Roy Wherry said. Fisher had been treated at the hospital since the accident at 10:50 p.m. on Sunday. Fisher started on the offensive line in every varsity game for Vernon the past two football seasons and would have been a football captain in his senior year, said coach Chuck Tepper. "His football, rightfully so, was so overshadowed by the great guy he was," the coach added. "He was respectful in school, he got good grades, he was fun, he went out of his way for other people." A popular athlete, Fisher also played lacrosse at Vernon High School and would have entered his senior year this fall, said Randy Mills, whose son, Brad, played lacrosse with Fisher. Fisher lettered in lacrosse this past spring. A recent inductee to the National Honor Society, he also took the time to coach basketball to kids at the Police Athletic League. Fisher was a student representative to the Vernon Township Municipal Alliance Committee and member of the Peer group at the high school. He worked as a lifeguard at Pleasant Valley Lake for the past three summers. "It's certainly a tragedy," Mills said. "A good kid gets in a car accident. It's just a tragedy." His teammates and friends have created a memorial at the site of the accident, leaving him messages alongside candles, flowers and footballs. "It's nice to see these young people pulling together in this tough time," Tepper said. "(Fisher's death) is going to leave a hole in so many people," he said. "He's going to be missed ... He really had it all." Fisher is survived by his parents, Dr. John and Deborah Fisher, his sister Mary, of Hoboken, and his brother Gregory, at home in Vernon. He had been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was the only passenger in the vehicle. *Obituary:* John David Fisher VERNON — John David Fisher, 17, died Thursday, July 13, 2006, at Morristown Memorial Hospital, of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident near his home on July 9.
